1. WHAT IS BUDDHISM?

2. METTA Lovinkindness Video

The instructions as given by Bhante Vimalaramsi himself. The instructions are 10 minutes set to exotic images from California. Watch this over and over for the instructions or use it as a guided meditation.

3. BIRTH FROM A WOMB

A short 8 minute video collage in which Bhante Vimalaramsi reads the sutta regarding the difficulties of birth. "When a woman drinks cold water it is like the cold hells to the baby in the woman, or if she drinks hot rice soup it is like the burning in the hot hells" is one memorable quote. It will put a smile on your face and change your perspective on birth.

4. RELIEF -STORY ABOUT DIPA MA

Bhante reads a sutta on the highest Jhanic levels and what they are like and then relates a story about a question he asked Dipa Ma, one of the most accomplished meditation masters in the world about why she does what she does.

5. THE LAST MOMENT

A 9 minute video in which Bhante talks about what happens in the last few moments before death. He worked with people who were in nursing homes and who died while he was there helping them to die in the right state of mind.

6. ROOT CANAL STORY -DENTAL PAIN

When Bhante was in Burma a dentist accidentally broke a tooth while he was cleaning Bhante's teeth. Unfortunately the dentist had to do a root canal procedure. Bhante said that due to risk of an infection from an unclean needle that he asked the dentist to not use novocaine and he describes the pain he went through and how he dealt with and overcame it.

7. Introduction to Anapanasati meditation

In this short talk Bhante relates the exact instructions for doing the Breathing meditation, not in the way other teachers teach it today, but how he teaches it and how he says the Buddha really taught it.

8. Introduction to Metta (Lovingkindess) meditation

This is a continuation from the above intro to breathing meditation in which Bhante gives the instructions for more powerful and immediately effective, in his opinion, the Metta meditation. These are talks from the Seattle series.

  • Monks Rules! First time on tape. Saying thank from a monk to a layperson. The proper way it is to be done: Sahdu. Tremendous Merit may be made by giving, but you must do it properly.

405 - MN#30 "The Shorter Discourse on the Heartwood" - Culasaropama Sutta

The Sixth talk given in Seattle area, 28-Mar-07. 1:31 Hours.

  • A man seeking the heartwood only comes away with the branches. What is the heartwood of the teachings? Speculation on others attainments lead nowhere
  • The lower meditation Jhana's explained.
  • Your mind has always moved forward but now you may see movement backward.
  • Attachment to family. What is the freedom from attachment.
  • You can develop meditation states to do "parlor tricks"; magic but it is best to go beyond this surface level.
  • Whenever you are serious, attachment is there! Time to smile!
  • What is contentment? What is "Rubbish Mind?
  • Vipassana as it is taught elsewhere (at0:59:00). What is it? Is it the same or different. Does it give real insight? Bhante goes to the Satipathana Sutta and shows how today's teachers are not following what the Buddha taught. Very important piece here! What is noting. What "Vipassana Meditation" is missing! Hindrances are suppressed during Vipassana and should NOT be. That is what shows you your attachment and how it arose. You start to see the impersonal nature of your mind.

406 - MN#48 "The Kosambians" - Kosambiya Sutta (The Verbal Daggers Sutta!)

The Seventh talk given in Seattle area, 29-Mar-07. 1:40 Hours. This Sutta describes a dispute between the scholarly or Sutta monks and the Vinaya or Rules monks. This dispute became a very divisive conflict. This is about Metta in daily life.
